Demonstrations pave the way for price speculation

Manifestações abrem caminho para especulação de preços

Some commercial centers, especially the largest markets selling basic necessities, have found the demonstrations an opportunity to speculate on product prices. But why?

A check carried out by NewsThe report, which was published in the Official Gazette, found that the threats to stop activities had led to a massive turnout at the markets, at least in Maputo city.

Products such as tomatoes, rice, onions and oil have suffered price increases ranging from 10 meticais to 200 meticais. In the case of tomatoes, the traders justified the increase due to fears of rotting "during the break days".

"We took advantage of the increase in demand to raise the price a bit," said one trader. But this also has to do with the rise in prices at wholesale outlets.
