Police and protesters clash in Nampula and Nacala

After an apparently calm morning, tempers flared between protesters and police in the cities of Nampula and Nacala, leading to shots being fired.

According to a publication on the IkweliIn the city of Nampula, the early afternoon confrontation took place at the airport traffic circle, where a specialized contingent of the PRM was waiting for the demonstrators.

According to the same publication, "the police were shooting to disperse the demonstrators".

Likewise, a child was run over by the police, who failed to provide first aid [as good manners and the law dictate] and also fled. The car that hit the child was a green Hummer.

The victim, who was 8 years old, had to be taken to a health facility by onlookers.

"The police just took the car and left, they didn't help that child," said a source at the scene.
