The government, through the interior minister, has appealed to the population to avoid taking part in the demonstrations called by Venâncio Mondlane, the independent presidential candidate.
According to the government, demonstrations usually end up degenerating into acts of vandalism and violence, including the destruction of public property, the paralysis of activities and other incalculable damage, as happened last week.
"Demonstrations are authorized by law, but when they take on violent contours it means that they cause disturbances to people's lives, property and these are not welcome," said Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda at a press conference in Maputo yesterday afternoon.
The minister reiterates that the Mozambican government is appealing to the population to distance themselves from the demonstrations in view of the suffering caused to innocent people.
"People couldn't go to work, children couldn't go to school, young people couldn't go to university because they were afraid, the terror they created is unforgivable," said the Governor.
For this reason, the government is calling on all Mozambicans to be calm and serene, because differences and disputes can only be resolved on the basis of dialog and the law.
"Many young people have been dragged here by people who are the moral authors of this problem. The Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) has files on the moral and material authors of people who must answer to the law and for their actions," said the minister.
Ronda adds that Venâncio Mondlane is the main promoter of the unrest from South Africa, where he is presumed to be at the moment.
It is worth remembering that Venâncio Mondlane once again announced a "mega demonstration" at national level that will last eight days starting this Thursday, October 31.
I explain that the slogan of this third phase is "General demonstration against the murder of the Mozambican people", which is taking place in various forms.
