The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) are demanding that presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane and the Podemos party return an AKM-47 firearm in the possession of members and sympathizers of the political party.
The police obligation follows political conflicts in the Chaláua administrative post, in the district of Moma, Nampula province. It is assumed that in the police 'stampede', the weapon was left behind. However, it was in Chaláua, where the population set fire to the police post, and it is said that the gun was stolen from there.
The appeal was made last night by the spokesman for the General Command of the PRM, Orlando Mudumane, hours after the PRM in the city of Nampula said that investigations were underway to determine whether it was a PRM weapon.
"The PRM demands, from Venâncio Mondlane and the Podemos party, the immediate return of the AK-47 firearm that its members seized at the Chaláua police station, Moma district, Nampula province," he said.
In its press release, the PRM assured that it would guarantee public order and security throughout the country, and reiterated its appeal to the population not to take part in acts of vandalism.
