Appreciate Podemos' feat, but lament the fall of the giant Renamo - Bitone Viage

Valorizar a proeza do Podemos, mas lamentar a queda do gigante Renamo – Bitone Viage

The political analyst of the Mais Integridade Electoral Consortium, Bitone Viagem, believes that the centralized results of the October 9 general elections did not exceed expectations.

"In general terms, we should appreciate this electoral feat by the Podemos party, and regret this historic one by the giant called Renamo," he said.

The results were presented by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) on Thursday (24) and give an advantage to the Frelimo party (195 seats in parliament) and its candidate, Daniel Chapo (70,67%). The Podemos party (31) won second place in parliament. Venâncio Mondlane (20,32%) was the second most voted presidential candidate. Renamo (20) and Ossufo Momade (5,81%) followed in third place. The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (4) and Lutero Simango (3,21%) took fourth place.

The data has yet to be validated by the Constitutional Council, and if the results stand, it will seal the meteoric rise of the Podemos party as the second party with a parliamentary majority. Renamo has held this position since the first multi-party elections in 1994. This year it suffered its biggest defeat ever.

"It was, in fact, a refinement of what we expected," he said, without elaborating.

And when asked whether the results reflected the truth of the elections, he said that it was the responsibility of the courts, but also of the parties, to check for irregularities.

"It is now up to the courts to show that there was no electoral truth," he said, noting that "the whole process was not transparent, fair and free".
