PR appeals to population to wait for official results of October 9 general elections

PR apela à população para aguardar resultados oficiais das eleições gerais de 09 de Outubro

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, today called on all Mozambican citizens to wait "serenely" for the release of the results of the October 9 elections by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and subsequent validation by the Constitutional Council.

He questioned how some people already know who won or lost in a context where the competent institutions, including the Constitutional Council, have yet to release and validate the results.

"The instigation that the country will return, on October 24 and 25, to claim a process that has not yet had its outcome in the appropriate institutions is disturbing. How does anyone know if they've lost or won when things haven't been said yet? How do you know?" he asked.

The PR also urged people not to join in acts of public disorder, to choose to "turn the page" and not make the murder of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe "a fuse to inflict more suffering on other compatriots".

The CNE will release the results of the October 9 general elections. Tomorrow is the day scheduled for the second phase of the two-day nationwide demonstration.
