The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, warned today in Maputo that the use of social networks to incite young people to commit acts of violence and to spread false information to the world.
"Showing discontent while respecting the law is a right. But discrediting one's own institutions and mortgaging the election results through the misuse of social networks and inciting people, and in particular a young population, to revolt on the basis of incomplete information, misinforming the world, lying to the world, and creating chaos for political ends can be considered criminal acts."
This week, presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane called for a nationwide general strike on one of his social media pages. He urged young people to take to the streets to protest against kidnappings. On other occasions, he has said that he is the legitimate winner of the presidential elections held on October 9.
