This Monday, the Joaquim Chissano Foundation (FJC) expressed its "deep indignation and repudiation" at the murder of Elvino Dias, Venâncio Mondlane's legal advisor, and Paulo Guambe, a PODEMOS representative.

In a statement, the foundation called the crime heinous and said it was a "brutal act of violence that tarnishes the image of our country".

"It's an attack on human life", which "is unacceptable and goes against the principles and values of dignity, respect and justice that we defend and that should underpin our society", reads the FJC statement.

The FJC also says that "we condemn in the strongest terms this and other heinous crimes" that "contribute to creating a feeling of insecurity and undermining the will to work for the well-being of Mozambicans".

The FJC advocates exemplary sentences for those responsible for this "macabre" crime and calls for it to be clarified quickly.

That "the perpetrators be brought to justice and held accountable with severe and dissuasive measures that contribute to preventing future cases of violence, murder and kidnapping".
