Desnutrição crónica: Taxa media nacional situa-se nos 37%

Chronic malnutrition in the country remains high. Nampula province is the most affected with 46.7%, followed by Cabo Delgado with 44.7% and Zambézia with 42.7%.

To reverse this scenario, the Technical Secretariat for Food and Nutrition Security in Nampula is stepping up food and nutrition education campaigns in the districts to combat the problem of chronic malnutrition.

These activities are part of World Food Day, which is being celebrated this Wednesday under the slogan: Food for a Better Life and a Better Future.

The SETSAN Focal Point at the Provincial Economic Activities Service in Nampula, Tomossene António, was quoted by Rádio Moçambique as saying that the work of advocacy, education and promotion to change the behavior of communities towards good nutrition is also underway.

The source explained that the importance of having a healthy diet for the future of children within families has been one of the themes that SETSAN has been disseminating to communities in the fight against chronic malnutrition.
