The self-proclaimed legitimate winner of the October 9 general elections, Venâncio Mondlane, says that he is ready to move forward with a transitional government, provided that the government of the day accepts the will of the people.
Presidential 2024: Venâncio Mondlane declares victory with "overwhelming majority"
Mondlane went on to say that, according to his parallel count, there are still around 75% of "popular will" to be ascertained. In fact, his count only found 25% of polling station votes.
Mondlane said it was not appropriate to disclose the lines of agreement that will dictate the transition.
"We have a proposal. We won't be able to release it until the counter-proposal has been made by the other side and we have the points agreed between the two parties... we want a peaceful transition," he said at a press conference.
Mondlane took the opportunity to explain that his self-proclamation as the winner of the vote is nothing more than a simple translation of the results.
