The population of the districts of Mucojo and Quiterajo, in the district of Macomia, and Mbau, in Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado province, were excluded from today's voting process due to the issue of armed insecurity affecting the region.
This has led to people not registering in these places, i.e. there are no registered voters.
According to the Provincial Director of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), Camal Cassamo, when the map of areas for voter registration was distributed, the towns of Mucojo, Quiterajo and Mbau were not included "for security reasons".
However, "the populations have been registered, because we've had an avalanche into the districts and nearby towns," he said, noting that in some areas the numbers are higher than expected. "They were registered in the host areas and regions".
The province has registered just over 1,400,000 voters, and STAE assures that the conditions are in place for today's elections to take place normally.
