A citizen was arrested on Wednesday of last week for attempting to sell a firearm illegally in the vicinity of Pemba, the capital of Cabo Delgado.
The police of the Republic of Mozambique caught him trying to sell two pistols.
It is suspected that the citizen has some kind of link with the terrorist groups that have been operating in Cabo Delgado province since 2017.
PRM spokesman Aniceto Magome explained that the citizen was neutralized thanks to complaints. The weapons were seized.
The man who was arrested said that the weapons had been bought in South Africa and would be sold to a private security company.
"But what worries us most is that these are nine-millimeter weapons, which are intended for the exclusive use of the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS)," Magome noted.
"I acquired the weapons through a friend who lives in Maputo and who asked me to find a customer. I was negotiating the sale for around 20,000 rands. I regret it, because I had never been involved in anything like this before. If I could go back, I wouldn't have done it," he said.
