The village of Pontene, in the tourist region of Macaneta, in Marracuene, Maputo province, could be cut off from the rest of the district due to the invasion of seawater.
The portion of land that served as protection against the sea is being overwhelmed by the fury of the waters that have merged with the Incomati River and formed a more violent current, according to Radio Mozambique.
The mayor of Marracuene, Shafee Sidat, says that the municipality is unable to solve the problem, due to its seriousness, and is asking the central government to intervene.
The phenomenon is affecting around 600 people, who use small boats every day to get to their homes. (RM)
