The "Mais Integridade" electoral observation consortium, which brings together seven civil society organizations, has deployed 250 observers to 80 districts in the country's three regions, with a view to monitoring the electoral campaign for the general elections on 9 October..
The 45-day electoral campaign kicked off yesterday, Saturday (24), across the country.
With this action, "Mais Integridade" aims to produce reliable information that will make it possible to assess the level at which the 2024 general elections will take place, based on the constitutional framework of Mozambican laws and African and international principles governing electoral processes.
In a statement quoted by AIMThe consortium also explains that the initiative also aims to help correct any malfunctions that occurred on election day.
"Mais Integridade's observation aims to create an electoral observation system capable of identifying, denouncing and presenting rapid and real responses to episodes relating to the conduct of the campaign and voting, including the counting and publication of results and contributing to the correction of any malfunctions observed on election day," reads the statement.
The initiative also wants to contribute to establishing a climate of trust, promoting a culture of non-violence and respect for human rights before, during and after the 2024 elections.
The group says in the document that particular attention will be paid to the presence of women as protagonists of gender equality in the electoral campaign, on airtime and in the media, as well as the drafting of electoral manifestos that guarantee the political parties' commitment to human rights.
"More Integrity introduces into its dimensions the observation of the levels to which elections are inclusive for people with disabilities, understanding that they continue to face systematic barriers to participating in the electoral process, a fact confirmed in the most recent observation exercises of the Electoral Consortium," she emphasizes.
With these tools, the organization aims to capture the dimensions of the representation of people with disabilities, the intention of political parties to guarantee conditions of inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities, whether or not they address issues that are relevant to the realization of the rights of people with disabilities, and the perceptions of people with disabilities about accessibility and inclusion in political party campaigns.
