A pair of brothers, children of the same parents, were convicted on Wednesday (14) of practicing incest in Tanzania. The local court sentenced the 33-year-old man to 20 years in prison. The 35-year-old woman was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The brothers had been living in this situation for around six years and a baby was born in 2022.

According to Radio Mozambique, the crimes took place on various dates between 2018 and July 31, 2024, in one village.

The charges against the brothers include engaging in sexual relations with a close family member in violation of the penal code, in addition to the act constituting indecent exposure.

The accused acknowledged the practices, but claimed to be unaware of the legal and punitive measures regarding the acts. They said they were persuaded by their paternal grandfather to marry in order to preserve family traditions.
