Today, Monday (05), the Assembly of the Republic will debate in general the proposal to revise the Law of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM).
Approved in March by the Council of Ministers, the proposal to revise the police law provides for the creation of the Criminal Offenses Investigation Branch (RIC), to deal with the new trend of crime in the country.
At the time of its approval, the spokesman for the Council of Ministers, Filimão Suaze, said that "the proposed revision aims to adapt the Law of the Republic of Mozambique Police to the legal framework in force at the stage of the country's socio-economic development, coupled with the challenges of the dynamics that criminal phenomena currently impose on public order, security and tranquillity".
The proposal is due to be examined by the National Assembly, and the Minister of the Interior, Pascoal Ronda, has already argued that the revision of the police laws will make it possible to better equip the corps and improve efficiency in the fight against organized crime.
Meanwhile, later today, the Assembly of the Republic will consider proposals to revise the laws on the National Criminal Investigation Service and the Statute for Judicial Magistrates.
