Governador de Cabo Delgado entrega kits de insumos para pesca

Governor Tauabo handed over 100 fishing, fish conservation, processing and marketing kits and 20 boat motors at a ceremony in Pemba on Thursday, July 25.

The act comes as part of the implementation of Cabo Delgado's Stabilization and Immediate Recovery Programme for displaced and host families in the district of Pemba.

In a statement, the Governor explains that the action also aims to facilitate the resumption of fishing by families affected by terrorism in the districts of Palma, Mocímboa da Praia, Macomia, Quissanga and Pemba.

Representing the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Samuel Akera reaffirmed his organization's willingness to continue providing multifaceted support to the program for the immediate stabilization and recovery of the province.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the president of the Community Fishing Center Siricate Selemane expressed gratitude for the support and praised the efforts of the government and cooperation partners to guarantee supplies and work to improve the families' living conditions and income.

The 2022 Artisanal Fishing and Aquaculture Census indicates that Cabo Delgado has 91 fishing centers with a workforce of 30,625 fishermen, as well as 3,825 boats and 8,673 sets of fishing equipment.
