Today, Wednesday, July 17, the Mozambican Association of Public Prosecutors (AMMMP) submitted a set of demands to the government. According to a note from the AMMMP, the prosecutors are demanding autonomy and financial independence for the Public Prosecutor's Office; improved salaries, allowances and security. The AMMMP's decision was taken at a session of the General Assembly held on July 6.
The prosecutors gave the government 30 days to respond to their demands, after which the AMMMP "will meet and decide on the measures to be taken by the class in the future".
The prosecutors say that they decided to submit their demands because they had made several requests to government bodies without a satisfactory response.
It's yet another professional class showing dissatisfaction with the government, after judges, doctors, health professionals and teachers.
Staff in the bureaucratic apparatus and members of the Defense and Security Forces are also dissatisfied, especially with pay issues.
In addition to failing to meet demands, Filipe Nyusi's government has not been able to engage in dialogue with the various professional groups. (Text: CDD. Image: DR)
