Patients at the Central Hospital in Nampula can now smile with joy, as they can now be treated properly with the arrival of the plaster cast in that province.
This happened after a report aired on the STV television channel, which reported on the drama experienced by patients who, due to a lack of plaster casts, were treated in an undignified manner, using cardboard.
This is the first stock of plaster that arrived by plane in the city of Nampula on the evening of Monday, July 15, as the government had promised, through the Minister of Health.
Hermenegildo Hua, an orthopedic doctor, explained to O País that after a long period of plaster shortages, around 2,500 rolls have been received, which he believes is enough to provide adequate treatment.
"This way we can also avoid complications that result from treatments that are not recommended in the case of trauma," said the source.
The orthopaedic doctor also says that the batch received should last for the next two weeks and "there is hope of receiving more plaster to meet the needs".
There have been cases of vicious consolidations, i.e. bones that haven't stuck together properly," explains Hermenegildo Hua.
The patients who were treated with cardboard will undergo a medical assessment so that, if necessary, the necessary corrections can be made, explained the source quoted by the newspaper.
The orthopedics and traumatology emergency department at Nampula Central Hospital attended to more than four and a half thousand cases in the first six months of this year alone.
