The Assembly of the Republic (AR) will once again debate the revision of the Electoral Law during its tenth ordinary session, which begins today, in accordance with the recommendations of the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
The Electoral Law had already been debated and submitted to the Head of State for consideration and promulgation, but was returned to parliament to "remedy inconsistencies".
However, the parliamentary benches differ on the need to debate the instrument once again. For Renamo, the law is "perfect" and should not be approved unilaterally.
"[In the law] there is no aspect of formal or material defect," said Arnaldo Chalaua, spokesman for Renamo's parliamentary caucus.
On the other hand, Frelimo says there is room to improve the Electoral Law, not least because the electoral calendar will not be compromised.
"The re-examination is requested because of the competences between the courts and the Constitutional Council, specifically in the tabulation phase," said Feliz Sílvia, spokesperson for the Frelimo bench. (Source: STV. Image: DR)
