Deaths caused by HIV/AIDS were reduced by 10.2% in 2023, meaning that Mozambique registered 44,000 deaths from HIV/AIDS in 2023.
The information is contained in a report by the National AIDS Council (CNCS).
In terms of infections, the document states that in 2023 the country registered 81,000 new infections, of which 31,000 were in adolescents and young people aged between 15 and 24. A total of 11 million tests were carried out.
Even with this scenario, the authorities hope to reduce the number of deaths in 2025 to 24,500 and the number of new infections to 65,000, according to the report we've been quoting.
The CNCS document also points out that 150,000 of the 2.4 million people infected by the disease in 2023 will be children.
