At least nine hundred and twenty-two people have died this year and another thousand and four hundred are reported missing during the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca.

The intense heat of over 50 degrees in Mecca, Islam's holiest city in Saudi Arabia, is thought to be the main cause of the deaths, reports the French news agency France Presse.
