- Daniel Matavele had votes tampered with in the minutes of the election results
- Son Ivan Matavele, godson Elias Tamele and godmother Formosa Macamo were due to arrive at the Assembly of the Republic.
- WMO Secretary General and Secretary for Combatants involved in the scam
A complaint by a member of Frelimo reveals a frustrated attempt among comrades to get family members to the position of deputies in the Assembly of the Republic through dubious schemes.
The case was triggered in the province of Gaza where, last weekend, along with other provinces, the election of pre-candidates for deputies to the RA took place. According to the video complaint made by the representative of the Massingir constituency, Frelimo's First Secretary in Gaza, Daniel Matavele, usurped votes for his son Ivan Jhon Matavele to become a member of parliament, representing the party's youth "wing". Ivan Jhon Matavele is said to have illegally benefited from 12 votes and appeared first on a list of four new members to be in parliament.
Other sources say that Daniel Matavele gave express orders to get his son elected in the first place. "He had the results tampered with in the minutes."
On the youth renewal list, there were four names for the same number of seats. "On that list were Mama Alice Tamele's godchildren and nephews. That list was to safeguard her interests."
In fact, young people were only entitled to two seats, but they were increased to four, for the same number of competitors, after two of the three seats to which women combatants are entitled were usurped.
She claims that the electoral process that took place in the city of Xai-xai broke the 35% protocol of quotas for the participation of women to be elected. "It was allegedly a directive of uncertain origin. It's all nonsense".
The HR candidate says that women were entitled to three seats for renewal. "But two seats were sacrificed to give to young people...". And when she tried to find out why the two seats had been cut, the secretary of the Mozambican Women's Organization (OMM - a social organ of the party), Alice Tamele, said: "That's right".
Meanwhile, members of the Gaza Provincial Committee demanded a recount of the votes in the youth election, and it became clear that Ivan Jhon Matavele, candidate number 2 on the list of the Mozambican Youth Organization (OJM), had benefited from 12 irregular votes. Thus, after the recount, Daniel Matavele's son moved from first place to third, with Dan Eugénio Matuassa with 87 votes and Jusselino Rubao Bahule with 80 votes being confirmed as the most elected.
With the truth restored, that there are only two seats available for young people, Matavele's son, who was known as a militant among most of his comrades, will not be a member of Parliament in the next legislature.
The whistleblower says that the Frelimo Political Commission has nothing to do with the fraud schemes, and "cleared" Margarida Talapa, a member of the Frelimo Political Commission, of any collusion in the scheme that also involved the secretary of combatants and Gaza.
In addition, the whistleblower, who says she does not fear any reprisals, said that the election was also fraudulent because the secretary, Alice Tamele, preferred to "kill the WMO in Gaza" in order to safeguard her interests.
"That's why they sacrificed the women combatants' list again, because they should have run on a general list. They've come up with tricks to justify strange things, things that aren't in the directive," he said.
Furthermore, Massingir's complainant says that she was elected in the process. "And again they want to belittle and destroy it. And I know there is justice and it will be done. I'm not afraid at any time. If there's a price I have to pay, I'm willing. No one is going to take my life and the party's life for that, to claim my right and that of the woman fighter. I will inform the community," she assured.
