The national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by 5.2% this year, according to recent forecasts by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The same growth is expected in 2025.
The data is contained in the Report on the Economic Outlook for African countries, presented in Nairobi, Kenya. The document improved the growth forecast for 2023 and 2022, when 5% and 4.2% were predicted respectively.
The ADB also predicts that inflation will fall by 5% this year and by 4.6% in 2025, and warns of a slowdown in reforms in view of the elections on October 9.
The extractive sector will lead national economic growth until 2025, especially through gas production. Agriculture will also play an important role in this growth trend.
On the other hand, ADB forecasts indicate that the national budget deficit will increase to 3.4% of GDP this year, before reducing to 1.3% the following year, 2025.
Between 2024 and 2025, inflation should fall to an average of 4.8%, due to "prudent monetary policy", and Mozambique's current account deficit should grow to 38.1% of GDP this year and 43.0% in 2025, "as imports increase".
