European Union closes Europe Day celebrations in partnership with Azgo Festival

União Europeia fecha celebrações do Dia da Europa numa parceria com o Festival Azgo

The European Union Delegation in Mozambique dedicated the entire month of May to various activities, ranging from cultural, academic and cooperation activities, among others, aimed at demonstrating and strengthening the links between Mozambique and Europe, as well as the shared values, such as solidarity and unity, highlighted in the Schuman Declaration of 1950.

The month of Europe closed with the presence of the European Union Delegation at the 11th edition of AZGO, held on May 24 and 25 in the municipality of Marracuene, in the Cumbeza district.

This is the most renowned International Arts Festival in Mozambique, which once again has the partnership of the EU and other entities, bringing together a diversified program of various arts such as music, dance, exhibitions and interactions between different audiences from Mozambique and the entire African continent.

Among the activities held throughout the month were the European Film Festival, which ran from April 26 to May 8, the official event celebrating Europe Day on May 9, the Africa-Europe Musical Concert held on May 11 at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre, and the Academic Fair organized by Team Europe, Pedagogical University - Maputo and the Association of Finalist University Students of Mozambique.

The aim of this activity was to explore and showcase the opportunities for higher education in European universities, both through the Erasmus+ Program and other mobility projects in the education sector funded by the European Union.

Also as part of the month's program, on May 23rd, the Guimarães Rosa Cultural Centre (Brazil-Mozambique) presented the play "The Prostitute's Monologue no Manicómio", by the Mbeu Theatrical Group, in a programme co-organized with the Italian Embassy.

To coincide with Europe's celebrations and as part of the partnership with Mozambique in various sectors, the first Partnership Dialogue took place in Inhambane on May 20 and 21, in which the European Union and the Government of Mozambique held a constructive dialogue on issues of peace and stability in the country, global priorities in the security sector and Mozambique's presidency and contribution to the United Nations Security Council, as well as reiterating the shared values of democracy and inclusion in a year in which Mozambique is hosting presidential and legislative elections.

It should be remembered that within the framework of the European Union's Global Gateway Strategy, Team Europe initiatives are being implemented in Mozambique (Team Europe Initiatives), which cover the sectors of youth education and the promotion of digital skills and other competencies, as well as climate and energy. These initiatives, among others, are part of the European Union's list of actions in its partnership with Mozambique, within the framework of the multi-year cooperation program 2021 - 2027.
