The member of the Assembly of the Republic for Renamo's parliamentary caucus, Ivone Soares, confirmed today that she will contest internal party elections at the congress to be held on May 15 and 16 in Zambézia.

Invone Soares, 44, is the niece of the party's main leader, Afonso Dhlakama, whose brother, Elias Dhlakama, is also running for president of Renamo.

The former head of Renamo's caucus in parliament, Soares has a degree in communication sciences and is studying for a doctorate in political science and international relations.

Elias Dhlakama is also a Renamo deputy in the AR and a senior member of the party.

Also today, RENAMO received the candidacy of Alfredo Magumisse, a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic and a member of the Political Commission.

MP Venâncio Mondlane and the then secretary-general, André Magibiri, are in the running.
