Apple announced this week that later this year it will allow the use of old or used parts from the brand to repair some of its iPhone models.
The parts that could be "recycled" to repair faults in recent iPhone models and upcoming versions include cameras, batteries and screens.
The company doesn't name the models in question, but there are rumors that refer to the latest iPhone 15 and its future versions as the beneficiaries of the measure.
Another option is to use third-party spare parts or used parts taken from other iPhones, but these don't guarantee the same quality as the originals.
This is because the parts are linked or locked to the device they originally came with, a practice commonly known as 'pairing' of parts.
However, the only way to restore and guarantee the same quality is to use new Apple parts that are not 'paired' with any phone.
"Used Apple parts will benefit from the same functionality and security that factory calibration offers for new parts," the company said in the statement.
In addition, Apple announced that "it will add the popular 'activation lock' feature to iPhone parts to prevent them from being removed from stolen devices".
"This feature, much requested by customers and authorities, aims to prevent the reactivation of a lost or stolen iPhone by blocking it and thus reducing the number of thefts," he explained.
"During a repair, if a device detects that a compatible part comes from a product with 'activation lock' or 'lost mode' enabled, the calibration options for that part will be restricted," the company added.
