The former Prime Minister of Mozambique, Alberto Vaquina, argued yesterday that the ideal profile for the next President of the Republic (PR) should be a figure with the capacity to protect, dignify and unite the Mozambican nation.
"The profile of the President that I would like to lead the destinies of Mozambique is all those who look at Frelimo as something that is necessary, that is theirs to protect, dignify, cherish, who look at Mozambique as the land where we all have to make our dreams come true," Vaquina said in an interview with the CIPCAST program of the Center for Public Integrity (CIP).
For this Frelimo member, the country's next president must look to children as the future and to women as the ones who "germinate our seed". Even so, Vaquina says he is ready to support whoever is running within his party and, above all, he is ready to take over the presidency if he is elected by his party.
"To lead this project, whose genuine aim is to improve the living conditions of the people, whoever comes forward with the desire to be president or to stand as a candidate, I will support without any reservations. But I also have no difficulty in saying that if it falls to me, I will accept, because Frelimo is also mine and I cherish these people," said the politician.
"If there are people who would like Vaquina to be (the President), what's the problem?" he asked in a tone of acceptance of the challenge.
He said he would accept the position because he believed in the possibility of fighting for the well-being of Mozambicans.
"It is possible to make Frelimo more ours, more aggregative and capable of pursuing what is our common goal, which is to fight for the well-being of Mozambicans," he said.
"The Mozambican nation deserves to be more of a nation and not small units, totally divided, of people turned against each other, in a real situation of save yourself if you can. If I were supposed to be the chosen one, I would work with all my might to avoid these save yourself if you can policies," he said.
It should be noted that at the closing session of the III Ordinary Session of the Frelimo Central Committee (CC), which took place last Saturday, the President of Frelimo, Filipe Nyusi, announced that the participants had decided that the Political Commission should meet within a few days to receive and forward to the Central Committee the names of the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic for Frelimo, as part of the succession process within the party.
