Massingir: People refuse to set up a voter registration office

Massingir: População recusa instalação de posto de recenseamento eleitoral

Voter registration offices in the community of Mavodze, in the Massingir district of Gaza, in the south of the country, have still not been set up due to a "tug-of-war" between the population and the local authorities. Residents are refusing to register and have blocked the installation of a brigade, according to a publication by the Center for Public Integrity (CIP).

The people of Mavodze, a bastion of poachers located in the Limpopo National Park area and on the outskirts of private reserves, accuse the government of never solving the problem of human-animal conflict in that region.

"The Mavodze communities complain of constant elephant invasions of their villages. The pachyderms sometimes end up killing people in the face of government inaction," says CIP.

These residents also claim that their cash crops are often devastated by elephants in their agricultural fields, leaving them exposed to starvation. "The government remains passive," the community laments, accusing the government of protecting more animals than communities.

That's why they refuse to set up a post and advise the government to register pachyderms, because they won't register.
