Yesterday morning, March 15, Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) and the Instituto de Bolsas de Estudo, I.P, (IBE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure that IBE students who have recently graduated will be given paid professional internships, both inside and outside the country.
The scholarship is aimed at students in the company's areas of activity, with priority given to Electrical Engineering.
This is a cooperation instrument that will also prioritize Gender Equality, one of EDM's Strategic Objectives, insofar as the selection of technical vocational students or graduates for training will pay special attention to the participation of women.
"Here at EDM we have examples of women who have performed remarkably well in project management and, in this way, have made a satisfactory contribution to the success of the company's activities and performance," said EDM's Executive Director, Noel Govene.
The same source, mentioning the commemoration of Women's Month, celebrated from March 8 to April 7, also expressed EDM's pride in always being in sync with the aspirations of Mozambican women.
On the same occasion, Noel Govene said that he expected active participation from both the IBE and the students in monitoring and denouncing acts of vandalization of electrical infrastructures and energy theft, which generate huge losses for the company.
"In 2023 alone, EDM recorded losses of around 5 billion Meticais, an amount that could have been used to connect more Mozambican families to the national electricity grid," said the manager.
For her part, the Director of the IBE, Carla Caomba, said that this act represents the first partnership of its kind that the institution has established in order to respond to one of the major challenges facing the institution, which is to support recently-graduated scholarship students in carrying out their professional internships.
"Professional internships play a crucial role in the training of students, especially in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, providing an essential bridge between theoretical learning and practical application in the real world," said the Director of the IBE.
As part of its Social Responsibility Policy, EDM is committed to contributing to the following
for the well-being of Mozambicans, so that this MoU represents yet another example of the Company's commitment to solidarity causes, with a useful and necessary impact for the pursuit of the future.
of national electrification work, guaranteeing quality energy for all Mozambicans by 2030.
