Order of Nurses: "ISCED professionals will not be recognized in the health system"

Ordem dos Enfermeiros: “Profissionais do ISCED não serão reconhecidos no sistema de saúde”

The Order of Nurses of Mozambique (OEM) says it will not recognize the certificates obtained by nursing students at the ISCED Open University, a private higher education institution dedicated to the online model. The issue is the lack of a laboratory at this educational institution for students to combine theoretical knowledge with practice.

For the Mozambique Nurses' Association, "you can't train a health professional sitting at home, because that would endanger the health of the people and guarantee poor care for users".

According to the Order, this modality is not compatible with current nursing practice. "Even face-to-face training is a challenge for the government to reinforce in order to overcome some existing difficulties, because it is recognized that the practice of this professional is sensitive to the life of the human being. Its failure can have irreparable consequences", explained Maria Lourenço, quoted by Success TV.

The source also adds that this teaching method adopted by ISCED does not offer the acquisition of knowledge of a practice that can dignify the field of nursing. For, "if the training is not compatible, bad nurses will come out and consequently contribute to the poor quality of health care".

"The Order will not recognize qualifications based on this type of training. Consequently, they will not be able to register to acquire a professional card, which will prevent them from practicing the profession, changing careers or being absorbed into the National Health System (SNS)," stresses the profession's regulatory body.
