Severe tropical storm Filipo has already left around 100,000 people without electricity in Mozambique.
A total of 98,756 people have been without electricity since Tuesday (12), according to a note from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), which says that the storm "is creating damage to the electricity system in the affected regions, with situations of fallen poles, flooded equipment and broken electricity cables".
According to a VOAIn Inhambane, in the south of the country, at least 83,000 people are affected, in the center the number is around 11,500 and in the north 4,256 customers have also been affected.
In the meantime, EDM guarantees that it has teams on the ground to gradually restore the system and calls on people to take preventive and safety measures, namely to avoid contact with any electrical equipment, the use of power tools outdoors, going barefoot or with a wet body and turning off the main switchboard and all electrical appliances.
According to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD), more than 525,000 people could be affected by strong winds and flooding caused by the storm, a meteorological phenomenon that lost strength a week ago but has now increased in intensity again.
