On Friday, March 8, in Maputo, the companies Águas da Região Metropolitana de Maputo (AdRMM) and Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM) signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at improving the current water supply system for the brewery, located in Maputo city.
To this end, the partnership includes the construction of a line dedicated to supplying water to the Maputo brewery, the transfer of the management of the Machava Pumping Station to AdRMM, through the transfer of metering mechanisms (macrometer) to the brewery, as well as the exploration of training opportunities and mutual cooperation in matters of environmental responsibility.
The aim of implementing this agreement is to guarantee water safety in mutual operations, human resources training in environmental sustainability, automation and instrumentation and environmental responsibility.
On the subject of this partnership, the chairman of AdRMM's Board of Directors, Castigo Álvaro Cossa, explained that the company will guarantee the maintenance and operation of the water supply line that runs from the Machava Distribution Center to the CDM brewery in Maputo.
It's a question of creating conditions for redundancy, starting with the Corumana water treatment system, which will mean that whenever there is a need to carry out any intervention on the Umbeluzi line, there will be no interruption in the beer production process due to a lack of water.
"In this way, AdRMM will finalize the execution of the redundancy project for the water supply from the Sábiè Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located in the Corumana Administrative Post, in the Moamba district," he said.
He added, "CDM is advanced in terms of equipment maintenance systems, so we want to harness this expertise for the benefit of our human capital, through the exchange of experiences, good practices and training in the electromechanical area."
On the basis of this agreement, conditions could also be created in the future to establish redundancy in the water supply system for CDM's brewery in Marracuene, through the construction of a Marracuene Distribution Center.
For his part, the director of CDM, Hugo Gomes, said that the memorandum arose from the wide range of talks and meetings that took place between the parties, during which some areas of cooperation and joint work were identified.
There is, he said, an upstream water source at the plant in Maputo city, whose transmission line has been leaking, leading to maintenance costs. As a solution, the parties agreed that water consumption readings would be taken from a meter installed at the factory.
"As part of this partnership, we will also benefit from a dedicated line to supply water to the factory in Maputo. There are other added values of mutual benefit that we can exploit under this agreement," he concluded.
