Minimum wage proposal: Unions await economic assessment

Proposta de salário mínimo: Sindicatos à espera do balanço da economia

The Workers' Organization of Mozambique - Trade Union Central (OTM-CS) is waiting to receive the balance sheet of the 2023 Economic and Social Plan (PES), the document on the basis of which the proposals for the readjustment of sectoral minimum wages are made, writes "Notícias".

Alexandre Munguambe, secretary-general of the OTM-CS, said that he expects to receive the document by March, and only then will he be able to move forward with the subsequent steps of negotiations.

He said that the minimum wages to be approved this year are expected to minimize the cost of living, since the prices of basic products have been rising.

He recalled that the minimum wage in force in the country does not meet the needs of workers, even for a family of four.

However, Munguambe said that the percentages approved for calculating the minimum wages in force were the result of consensus reached at the negotiating table of the Labor Consultative Commission, a tripartite body in which the government, employers and workers are represented. (News)
