The National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ) is threatening to withdraw from the market all imported products that don't have a label in Portuguese.
The measure is part of the government's effort to establish a compliance program for products marketed on national territory, writes Notícias.
Speaking to "Notícias", the director general of INNOQ, Geraldo Albazine, admitted that the lack of translation of descriptive information prevails, especially in imported pre-measured products.
The source, also quoted by the newspaper, also stressed the importance of labeling in Portuguese as a communication mechanism that includes important data to help consumers make an informed choice about the product they are purchasing.
