The mayor of Nampula, Paulo Vahanle, guaranteed yesterday that the process of handing over power scheduled for today, Wednesday, in the town hall, will be peaceful. Even so, the mayor asked that he not be persecuted by the courts after his mandate.
Speaking at a press conference at the protocol residence, Vahanle said that on the advice of the leadership of his party, Renamo, he had decided to hand over the municipality.
"Right now, we're asking the judicial bodies to leave us alone, not to go after gossip, because during our mandate we were called to court to answer this and other questions. We, as the city of Nampula, have done everything to show our work and that is why we have had many achievements," said the mayor, quoted by the portal IkweliHe stressed that he is handing over the municipality because he is "being forced to, since the will of the people has been kicked over"
On the same occasion, the mayor pointed out that the city council was managing the funds better and applying them according to the wishes of the residents, "but that worried our opponent".
"The city of Nampula and Vahanle's governance do not leave any debt, but only activities that need to be continued, such as the Marrere road. Given that he won the work, we have some unpaid bills," he said.
