Sweden is going to invest just over 420 million meticais over four years to promote the GERASOL Renewable Energy Project in the north of the country.
This is a project to be implemented with the SNV organization in coordination with the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Nampula, whose memorandum of understanding to meet this goal was signed this Tuesday between the parties, reports Rádio Moçambique.
Mette Sunnegren, Sweden's ambassador to Mozambique, said that the project will boost the development of the communities, and it is hoped that this plan will generate employment for another 3,000 young people in the region.
According to Mette Sunnegren, the money will also be used to train young people to repair clean energy systems, since there is still a shortage of trained technicians in the country.
Meanwhile, Tomé Chacuchacha, director of the Secretary of State's Office in Nampula, assured that the government will create mechanisms to ensure that the project is sustainable in the region's communities.
Chacuchacha was speaking on Tuesday moments after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Swedish Cooperation, SNV and the Industrial and Commercial Institute of Nampula.
