The National Institute for Disaster Management and Reduction (INGD) urgently needs resources to deal with the wave of displaced people resulting from the new escalation of jihadist actions in Cabo Delgado, more than 880 of whom are in the district of Macomia and hundreds more in Mueda.
The INGD delegate in Cabo Delgado, Elisete Manuel, described the situation as worrying, because the displaced people need emergency food assistance.
Nevertheless, political analyst and researcher at the Observatory of the Rural Environment (OMR), João Feijó, believes that the new armed attacks may be related to the possible return of TotalEnergies, since there has been a lot of optimism on the part of the government, ''and we know that this project will benefit the government, which is the main enemy of this armed group''.
Quoted by VOA, Feijó said that in recent times, the group has been moving to the south of Cabo Delgado province, because it is taking advantage of the rains in the province, since the roads are impassable, which makes it difficult for the Mozambican army and Rwandan and SADC troops to move.
"The curious thing is that the group hasn't harmed the population, it doesn't steal food, it buys food at generous prices, and this strategy is going to have a very complicated impact on the region," said the researcher.
