Jurgen Klopp surprised everyone by announcing early on Friday morning that he will step down as Liverpool manager, a position he has held since October 2015, as soon as this season comes to an end.
In an extensive interview with official platforms of the Reds, the German coach explained that the decision was due to the fact that he "no longer had the energy" to continue leading the team for much longer, so he made it known that he would be taking a year's break from soccer... which he admits he won't be returning from.
"I also need a different purpose, I have to look for it. If you ask me, 'Are you ever going to work as a coach again?' Right now, I'd say 'no'. But obviously I don't know how I'd feel, because I've never been in that situation," he began.
"What I know for sure is that I will never, ever coach another club in England other than Liverpool, 100%. That's not possible. My love for this club and the respect I have for the people is too great," he continued.
"As for the rest... Will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I can't just sit around. Maybe I'll find something else to do, but I'm not going to coach a club or a national team for at least a year. It's not possible," he added.
