Assembly of the Republic deputy Eduardo Namburete, a senior member of the Renamo party, was recently appointed by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, to the post of ambassador to Algeria.
However, while some political analysts consider the act to be normal, others believe that this act could be an "attempt by Frelimo to capture some of the more intellectual and more independent voices in Mozambique's largest opposition party".
This position is defended by political analyst João Feijó, who in an interview with Voa described the appointment as part of Frelimo's strategy to capture the most independent figures politically and take away from the opposition those voices that gave the party credibility among the population and the international community''.
Political analyst Dias da Cunha believes that "the appointment of Eduardo Namburete is one of the normal dynamics of politics, so I don't see any problem with it. If President Filipe Nyusi didn't do this, he would be accused of not being inclusive in his governance, so it's up to Renamo to look for other cadres, including in Frelimo," he told Voa.
For his part, Fernando Lima, also a political analyst, considers this appointment a wise decision, which is in line with the principle evoked by Filipe Nyusi at his first inauguration in 2015, that everyone fits in his heart.
Lima says that "unfortunately, this principle was rarely used, and all the decisions, in the overwhelming majority of cases, were shaped by strictly partisan decisions".
