The Anglican Church is working hard to ensure that Bishop Carlos Matsinhe, the current Bishop of the Diocese of Libombos, retires this year.
According to the statutes of the Anglican Church of Mozambique and Angola, Matsinhe will not be able to continue in office because he will turn 70 on October 2. This is the age limit for holding that position, says the Savannah which quotes a note from the institution.
Dom Carlos Matsinhe is also the President of the National Electoral Commission. He is accused of being one of the people most responsible for the biggest electoral frauds in the country, in the context of the municipal elections. The trustworthiness of the Anglican Church has been questioned because of the results of the October 11 elections.
Mozambique is holding presidential, legislative and governorship elections on October 9. Anglican work is in full swing to remove Dom Carlos Matsinhe from the leadership of Libombo before the next ballot.
The note from the Anglican Church also says that a timetable leading to the date of the thanksgiving and farewell celebration will be announced in due course, writes the newspaper we quote. The church wants to establish unity within the religious congregation because of the upheavals it has suffered.
"In view of the turmoil and disquiet affecting all of us and the Church in general, after reflection, listening and prayer, we have decided that the theme of the current year is to rescue greater unity between the clergy, the laity and the whole Church. In this sense, the theme is: Where there is unity, the Lord commands blessing and life forever, taken from the book of Psalms," said the note.
