Six Maternal and Child Health nurses from Matola Provincial Hospital have been charged with unlawfully charging a pregnant woman.
According to a note from Maputo's Anti-Corruption Office, a citizen went to the hospital's maternity ward to give birth, where she was charged 1,000 Meticais by a nurse to provide her with personalized care.
And by not providing the amount requested, the citizen will have been poorly served, and consequently end up losing her baby.
As a result, the nurse was charged with the crime of passive corruption for a lawful act and referred to the court for further proceedings.
With regard to the other defendants, the case was dropped because it was not proven that they had solicited money from the whistleblower," reads the document that MZNews had access to.
The office explains, however, that it has not been proven that the newborn lost her life as a result of poor care at the maternity hospital.
