More than 20,000 people will be able to cross Maputo's borders

Migration authorities in Maputo estimate that around 20,000 people will cross the four borders of Maputo province, with the largest number likely to go through the Ressano Garcia border crossing to South Africa.

The Mozambican authorities have deployed police brigades at strategic points, including the Km 4 post and Ressano Garcia, to facilitate the movement of people and goods.

"We call on travelers to follow all the normal procedures for migratory movement," said Cármen Mazenga, spokesperson for Migration in Maputo province.

She said that travelers should carry their passports or other travel documents of similar value for cross-border transit.

Crossings were expected to peak between January 2nd and 3rd, and this Tuesday alone, more than 16,000 people crossed the borders.
