Dredging of Quelimane port valued at 5.3 million dollars

Dragagem do porto de Quelimane avaliada em 5,3 milhões de dólares

The company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) needs just over 5.3 million US dollars to ensure that the Port of Quelimane, in Zambézia province, is dredged more effectively and more thoroughly, so that large ships can enter.

According to the newspaper Notícias, the assurance was given a few days ago in Quelimane by the local CFM delegate, Agostinho Conde, during a forum of mining operators from Zambézia province.

At the moment, according to the Mozambican Dredging Company (EMODRAGA), the maneuvering and docking basin has 616 cubic meters of sediment that must be removed to optimize navigation safety.

In 2022, the CFM revealed that the Port of Quelimane is ready for international traffic of ships with a capacity of up to ten thousand gross metric tons.

To this end, the company has invested around three million dollars this year in dredging operations to make it more competitive, having reached a depth of between four and five meters in the port and between six and seven meters in the access channel.
