FIFA has warned Brazil in a letter about the possible suspension of its national and club teams from international competitions, reports Associated Press (AP).
FIFA's position has to do with the actions of a court in Rio de Janeiro regarding the removal, on December 7, of Ednaldo Rodrigues as President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
It refers to AP that irregularities were detected in the process of re-electing Rodrigues in 2022, with re-elections of a new president already scheduled for January 2024.
FIFA believes that there is some precipitation in the removal of Ednaldo Rodrigues, 69, and the re-election of a new president, but also that there is interference by the state and third parties in the soccer federations.
The Rio court ruling also appointed José Perdiz, the head of Brazil's main sports court, as mediator to organize new elections for the presidency within 30 working days. FIFA has said in previous letters to the CBF that it considers the intervention undue.
The CBF presidency has been facing a strong directive 'crisis', with several investigations into corruption scandals, and is being led on an interim basis by José Perdiz.
If Brazil is suspended, a possible return to competition should take place as soon as the crisis is resolved.
FIFA and CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) also said in the letter that they will form a commission to discuss the issue in Brazil on January 8.
