A teacher was found dead in the early hours of December 2 after he had filed a complaint against a scheme of illegal deductions from teachers' salaries carried out by the Coordinator of the Pedagogical Influence Zone, writes the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD).

The victim's body was found at the Primary School in the district of Mucba.

The CDD publication, which quotes the victim's colleagues, states that he was found dead from stab wounds after receiving a call on Wednesday, supposedly from the government, to appear at the DDE in order to keep up to date on the claim against salary deductions.

He is yet another Mozambican citizen silenced in obscure circumstances for simply raising his voice and claiming his rights against illegal practices, the publication said.
