The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) predicts days of intense heat, with thermometers registering temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, and little rainfall during the month of December.
The scenario is expected to damage agricultural production and livestock grazing, as well as influence the drop in water levels in substations, conditioning supply and distribution. There is also likely to be an increase in summer illnesses, says the News.
Every scenario described is being influenced by the El Niño phenomenon, according to INAM climatologist Isaías Raiva.
However, "[there is] a possibility of frontal systems forming in the south of the country, due to its location, which will lead to a slight drop in temperature," he said, noting that the same system is moving towards the central area, and could reach the north.
He said that summer in Mozambique occurs between October and March, with the peak between December and February.
