PRM wants Paulo Vahanle brought to justice for instigating violence

PRM quer Paulo Vahanle na barra da justiça por crime de instigação à violência

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the province of Nampula wants the Public Prosecutor's Office to hold the outgoing mayor of the city of Nampula and Renamo candidate in the October 11 municipal elections, Paulo Vahanle, responsible for the crime of instigating violence..

It all started at a popular rally held in the Muahivire Expansão neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Nampula, where Paulo Vahanle, also the current mayor of the largest urban center in the north of the country, called on residents to prepare arrows to defend themselves against police brutality during the demonstrations against the October 11 election results.

This appeal did not please the PRM, which is why, through the Nampula provincial command, the corporation has informed the PRM that it condemns the mayor's attitude and will take him to court.

"This candidate, in an explicit and clear way, instigated the population to commit a crime, which is a fact that we as a police authority strongly repudiate," Zacarias Nacute, spokesman for the PRM in Nampula, told the press, quoted by the Ikweli portal.

"The corporation and its agents are not intimidated by these statements, which is why they will be on the streets to maintain public order and security, and in the face of these situations we hope that citizens of good conduct will not be affected in their normal work activities by these actions of vandalism, these criminal actions that this candidate is encouraging the population to commit," the spokesman stressed.

Zacarias Nacute also said that whenever there is a disturbance to public order, "there is a need to put police officers on standby to ensure that public order and security are maintained throughout the territory".

"But in order for this public order situation to become a reality, we want to reiterate our appeal to all citizens in the municipalities of Nampula province not to join in these incitements to violence, because if we get involved in situations of this kind we could run the risk of irreversible damage because of the provisions that govern our country's legal system, which is why the Police of the Republic of Mozambique will be attentive and ready," Nacute threatened.
