Extremistas voltam a atacar Macomia e Litamanda, perto de Mocímboa da Praia

Violent extremists have once again carried out another attack in Novo Cabo Delgado village, in the Chai administrative post in Macomia, according to the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD).

In its Bulletin on Human Rights, published today (13.10), the non-governmental organization (NGO) states that the extremists entered the village and surprised the population with gunfire early on the morning of Friday, November 10, 2023.

The attack is thought to have been carried out by a group of men dressed in military clothes who are believed to be members of the violent extremists.

The source we've been quoting says that the extremists' incursion resulted in three deaths (two men and a woman).

"The incursion also resulted in the burning of the population's huts, which generated another wave of internally displaced people," reads the NGO document.

This is the second attack in less than a month in the Macomia district. The first, according to the NGO, was the assault on Mucojo where, as well as killing, the violent extremists recruited men to join their ranks.

It is worth remembering that the Macomia district is defended by SAMIM, which will be in the demobilization phase from December 2023 until mid-2024.
