This Wednesday (08), the President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated two electricity plants at the administrative posts of Saua-Saua, in the district of Nacarôa, and Covô Gêr-Gêr, in Nacala-à-Velha.
The inaugurations are part of the "Energy for All" program, which plans to light up all the country's districts through the national energy network by 2030.
However, the ceremony in Covô Gêr-Gêr went off schedule. The PR, as STV reported, was forced to interrupt his inauguration speech twice because the population was making noise. The first time at 56 seconds, after the attempt to start the speech.
At the first interruption, the PR asked a rhetorical question: "What do they want?", and got down from the stage. He tried to calm the population, mostly young people and children. Now close to the people, he asked: "Can we talk or do you want to make noise?" In chorus, the crowd replied: "We can talk". And PR prevailed: "Then let's talk. We're here to deliver energy to you. We did it in Nacarôa and we're doing it here, now"!
Back on the stage, the PR only spoke for 2 minutes and 55 seconds, because the noise didn't stop.
As the images showed, the governor of Nampula, Manuel Rodrigues, and the Secretary of State in the province, Jaime Neto, tried to calm the unrest, but their efforts failed.
The PR abandoned the paper speech and relied on his improvisation. Even so, it didn't go as planned. "We plan to electrify all the districts. Next year we will complete everything. In this province there are still eight to go...".
The PR did nothing more than abandon the administrative post without presenting the population with the glory speech.
The PR told the press: "The population wants energy, water, roads. They want to live well. They want a telephone. And when we arrive, it's a party for them. It's what they've seen. They want to celebrate the energy that has arrived and that they've been waiting for for a long time."
